2x + 7 = 1

Subtract 7 on both sides

2x = 1 - 7

2x = -6

Divide both sides by 2

x = -6/2

x = -3

Your answer is [tex]\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\bf{x=-3}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}[/tex]
